How we handle your privacy
We run Spread-Bet.co.uk, and this page sets out what happens to any personal information you share with us. The site runs over SSL, and we handle your data under the UK Data Protection Act 2018 and UK GDPR. We have tried to write it in plain English rather than legalese, so you can actually tell what we do with your data.
Getting in touch
If you have a question about your data or anything on this page, email our Data Protection Officer. Before we act on a request we may ask you to confirm who you are, which stops anyone else getting at your information. The contact page lists the ways to reach us.
What we collect
The information we hold comes from three places. There is what you give us directly, such as your name, email, and sometimes device or location details when you fill in a form. There is what we pick up as you use the site: the pages you visit, how you interact with our tools, your device ID, cookies, and browser data. And there is a smaller amount we get from elsewhere, mainly brokers and public sources, which helps us keep our comparisons accurate.
We do not go looking for sensitive data like your ethnicity, political views, or health, and we do not ask for it. If something sensitive or unsolicited reaches us anyway, we check whether we are allowed to keep it. If we are not, we delete it or strip out anything that identifies you.
What we do with it
We use your information to keep our own records, to run market research and develop the business, to send marketing where you have agreed to it, to analyse how the site is used so we can improve it, and to handle the day-to-day running of the business. Some of it is aggregated and anonymous, which lets us spot usage patterns and produce reports without tying anything back to you.
Marketing only goes out with your consent, and you can withdraw that whenever you like. If you would rather we limited what we collect, or you want off our mailing list, just tell us.
Cookies, tracking and your location
We use cookies and web beacons to make the site work better for you, and your browser settings decide which ones you accept, so you can turn them down there. If you give permission, we may also use your location to show content that is more relevant to where you are in the UK.
Sharing and overseas transfers
We may pass your information to brokers and to the third-party providers who help us run the site. When we do, they are held to the standards set out here. Some of those providers, and some of our own related entities, sit outside the UK, so your data may travel abroad. Where that happens, it is still handled under UK GDPR and UK privacy law.
We also link out to other websites. Once you leave our site we have no control over what those sites do, so their privacy practices are their own, not ours.
A note on the site’s history
Before learnmoney.co.uk and findependenceday.com merged into this site, any data or content they collected sat outside our control. No customer data changed hands when those businesses were sold. We either removed the old content or rewrote it so it is accurate for a UK spread betting audience.
How we keep it safe
We protect the information we hold with security measures designed to prevent unauthorised access, misuse, or disclosure.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR you can ask to see the data we hold, correct it, have it erased, restrict or object to how we use it, and request a copy to take elsewhere. You can also opt out of direct marketing at any time. To do any of this, contact our privacy officer and we will deal with it promptly.
If you think we have mishandled your information, tell us first so we can put it right. If you are still not happy, you can raise it with the Information Commissioner’s Office.
Updates to this policy
We update this policy from time to time. Any changes go on this page, and if you have given us your email, we will let you know when something significant changes.
